Scotland's Highlands and North Coast

The roofless Old St Peter's Church, dating back to the 1100s, is about all that remains of medieval Old Thurso. Thurso's new town was designed in a grid layout by Sir John Sinclair from around 1798. Sir John's Square has his statue in front of the gothic style St Peter's and St Andrew's Church which was completed in 1832 (left photo). There is also an impressive war memorial at the other end of the square (right photo) unveiled in 1922 by Sir Archibald Sinclair.
